The 'Mixing Secrets' Free Multitrack Download Library

Below is a list of raw multitrack projects which can be freely downloaded for mixing practice purposes. All these files are presented as ZIP archives containing uncompressed WAV files (24-bit or 16-bit resolution and 44.1kHz sample rate), without any effects or processing. When importing them, just make sure all the track files start at exactly the same moment in time within your DAW project.

In addition to the Full Multitrack packages, there are also many quick-download Edited Excerpt versions (usually featuring the song's biggest chorus) which provide 'bite-sized' mixing assignments well-suited to classroom use. In both cases a preview mix is provided for easy auditioning while browsing through the list. Some of the projects are drawn from my work for the Sound On Sound magazine 'Mix Rescue' column, and I've included links to the relevant articles in case you'd like to read about how I approached them.

In addition to the multitracks hosted directly on this site, I've also included links to a few other decent downloads I've discovered on other sites. If you encounter any problems with any of these files, or if you have any projects of your own that you'd be willing to post (or link to) here, then do get in touch. (However, if the full-length ZIP files appear to be corrupted, then your download is probably incomplete -- some people's network connections aren't very reliable with such large files. If the problem persists, try using a download manager such as the freeware JDownloader or the DownThemAll add-on for Mozilla's open-source Firefox web-browser.) This is a growing resource, so if you want to keep track of the latest uploads please subscribe to my monthly spam-free 'Mixing Secrets News' mailing list. I usually post to this list towards the end of the month, and the mail includes a regular 'top ten' chart of the most popular downloads.

Many thanks to the artists and engineers who have kindly agreed to provide these files -- please follow the links and check out their latest music! All downloads from this site are provided free of charge for educational purposes only, and the material contained in them should not be used for any commercial purpose without the express permission of the copyright holders. For projects hosted on other sites, please refer to their separate conditions of use.

If you want to link to specific multitracks in this library (eg. for mix-off purposes), please use the 'direct-link URL' posted alongside each multitrack listing, not the raw URL of the ZIP archive. This allows me to rename, reorganise, or rehost the files if necessary without breaking your link.
